Briony is our 2023 Club Champion!
Our annual club championships were held at Marriott’s Gym, with seven individual competitions being strongly contested and a range of individual trophies to be awarded. The results are detailed below:
Junior 7/8 competition - 1st: Nia Brown, 2nd: Amelia Horvat, 3rd: Brooke Sofokleous-Ames.
Junior 9+ competition - 1st: Esta Andriuskeviciute, 2nd: Bethany Wright, 3rd: Fearne Popely, 4th: Donya Ahmadi,
5th: Aoife Dowling-Welsby.
Steel 7/8 competition - 1st: Emily Durmus.
Zinc 8/9 competition - 1st: Ellie Shamshoom 2nd: Ava Thomas, 3rd: Maisie Sinclair, 4th: Elsie Demetriou,
5th Beau Irish-Barker.
Zinc Plus 11+ competition - 1st: Lucie Day, 2nd: Maisie Clay, 3rd: Zahraa Khaled, 4th: Kacie Coats.
Copper 12+ competition - 1st: Julia Ruszelak, 2nd: Daisy Mehmet, 3rd: Sophie Turner.

Bronze for Turnford at Zinc Teams
On Sunday 12th November, we had 2 teams competing at the Zinc level Hertfordshire Team Championships.
Both teams performed extremely well, with our Turnford Blue team finishing 3rd overall and collecting the bronze medal and our Turnford Pink team finishing in 7th place.
Turnford Blue: Maisie Clay, Kacie Coats, Lucie Day and Zahraa Khaled.
Turnford Pink: Elsie Demetriou, Ellie Shamshoom, Beau Irish-Baker and Ava Thomas.

Bronze for Lucie at Regional Finals
On Sunday 5th November, Lucie went to Ipswich to compete in the Eastern region finals in the Zinc 11+ competition.
Lucie showed strong routines in a tough competition, and picked up a bronze medal for her fantastic vault.
Well done Lucie we are really proud of you!
Copper County Teams
Huge well done to our Copper team who won a bronze medal at the Herts Team championships on Sunday 22 October & to Briony & Laci who competed as guests at Bronze level.

Turnford Gymnastics celebrates 50th Anniversary!
Thank you so much to everyone who came to the 50th Anniversary party on the 14 October. It was great to see so many past and present members join together to celebrate the club’s wonderful achievement!

Lucie is Zinc County Champion!
On Sunday 8 October 2023, we had gymnasts competing at Steel and Zinc levels at the Hertfordshire County Championships.
In the Steel competition, Emily performed great routines & gained lots of experience for the future in her first levels competition. In the Zinc competitions, all our gymnasts performed brilliantly with notable success to Lucie who was crowned Zinc (11+) County champion!
We also picked up several apparatus ribbons – Ellie (9/10) 3rd on beam & 2nd on floor. Kacie (11+) - 3rd on vault & 3rd on floor. Lucie (11+) - 1st on vault, 3rd on bars, 1st on beam, 2nd on floor & 1st All Around.

Herts Copper & Bronze Champs
On Sunday 1 October 2023, we had gymnasts compete in the Hertfordshire County Copper & Bronze Championships.
The Copper competition saw some strong performances from Sadie, Beth, Julia, Daisy & Sophie in a big competition, with apparatus ribbons for Beth 3rd on beam, Sophie 3rd on floor & Julia 2nd on floor.
The Bronze competition saw Briony & Laci perform clean, strong routines in a tough competition, with apparatus ribbons for Briony 3rd on vault & beam.

Bronze Age 13+: Briony McDonagh and Laci Townley

Silver for Briony at Regional Finals
On Sunday the 14th May, Kacie (Grade 4), Julie (Grade 3), Laci and Briony (Grade 1) went to Ipswich to represent Hertfordshire in regional grade finals.
The girls competed well in very strong competitions, with notable success for Briony winning an all-around silver medal for her fantastic performance.

Success at Club & Regional Grades
Well done to all our gymnasts who passed their Regional Grades on Sunday 19th March 2023 at Marriott’s Gymnastics Centre, Stevenage.
Special mentions go to Elise for 3rd at grade 6 (11+), Kacie for 2nd and Maisie for 3rd at grade 4 (13+), Julia for 2nd at grade 3 (11/12), Laci for 2nd and Briony for 3rd at grade 1 (15+). Kacie, Julia, Laci and Briony will go to Regional Finals to represent Hertfordshire on Sunday 14th May 2023.
Grade 6: Elsie Demetriou (Commended). Grade 4: Daisy Mehmet, Kacie Coats and Maisie Clay (Commended).
Grade 3: Julia Ruszelak and Beth Stanyer (Distinction). Grade 1: Laci Townley and Briony McDonagh (Commended).

Success at Herts Grades
Congratulations to all the girls who passed their Hertfordshire Grades on Sunday 12th March 2023.
Strong performances from our girls resulted in them easily passing their grades. Emily and Donya also won a trophy for the joint highest scores on vault at Grade 1.
